Introduction to Calling

Churches that Cultivate Calling in People of All Ages 
This video presentation introduces you to the key concepts behind Vibrant Faith's C3 Project and presents the stories, examples, and practices of churches who are deepening and enriching the lives of their people by equipping them to discern and live out their callings.

Through the experiences of the six coaches working with the 24 churches in the C3 Project you will discover how churches are guiding people of all ages to discover their Christian calling can transform your entire congregation; and about how church communities are embracing new models and approaches for inspiring and supporting the Christian callings of their members.

Since 2018 the Vibrant Faith team has been working with 24 churches who are participating in the Lilly Endowment funded program to develop new ways to guide people in discerning and living their calls in everyday life. Vibrant Faith believes that calling is central to our lives as Christians. We believe that calling is a dynamic response to who we are, how we live, and what we give our lives to.

The Presenters
  • Host: Dr. Nancy Going, C3 Project Coordinator and Executive Director of Vibrant Faith
  • Rev. Dr. Von Clemans is a retired PC(USA) pastor/educator in Charlotte, NC and an instructor with Vibrant Faith (D.Ed  Min. Columbia Theological Seminary).
  • Rev. Melissa Cooper is Minister of Worship and Arts at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church in Orlando, and an ordained Deacon in the United Methodist Church (MTS, Boston University).
  • Rev. Shonda Nicole Gladden is Associate Pastor at Crossroads AME Church in Indianapolis and the CEO of Good to the SOUL (M.Div. Wesley Theological Seminary).
  • Jim Merhaut is president of Coaching To Connect and Professional Certified Coach through the International Coach Federation (MA Religious Education, Duquense University).
  • Rev. Erik Samuelson is pastor of Faith Lutheran Church in North Lakewood, WA and founder of Come Alive Consulting (M.Div., Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary)
  • Denise Utter is a freelance consultant, writer and speaker, and former director of faith formation in a congregation (MA Pastoral Studies, Catholic Theological Union.
